About us
It is estimated that each year approximately 1500 residents of Leeds will have their first stroke, with a further 600 having a recurrent stroke. This project was established in 1994 to help the Trust and Leeds Health Authority plan services for people who have had a stroke.
The Leeds Stroke Database receives tremendous support from all levels of health care staff within primary and secondary care in Leeds. Through the ongoing help we receive, from notification of stroke patients to assisting with the completion of outcome measures, we are able to achieve the following aims and offer the listed services.
The Leeds Stroke database aims to:-
1 .Maintain and develop a district wide stroke database using routinely collected data and to ensure that the data are both comprehensive and accurate.
2. Collect outcome data on patients who have had a stroke, six months after the event. The outcome measure is based on the Barthel Index.
3. Communicate the data to both the patient's Primary Care Trust and hospital consultant.
4. Provide aggregated and anonymised data to the PCTs to assist in stroke service planning.
5. Act as a case register to facilitate stroke research and audit in Leeds.
6. Provide a six monthly Patient Satisfaction and Caregiver burden scale reports based on patients and carers responses to survey
7. Be involved in appropriate educational initiatives associated with stroke in Leeds.
The Leeds Stroke Database is a register of Leeds residents who have suffered a stroke.
