JUNE 2006

Joanna Powell - Modernisation Development Manager

I took up the role of Neurology pathway lead for Making Leeds
Better (MLB) at the begining of March 2006. The Neurology
pathway is part of the 'Early implementors group'. The
pathways I am working on are the Transienct Ischaemic Attack
(TIA) pathway, the Stroke pathway and the year of care pathway for people following a stroke. I also work for the Leeds Modernisation Team - disability, where I lead on a couple of the quality standards for the National Service Framework (NSF) for Long Term Conditions (LTC).

Both these positions are temporary appointments and I also continue to work for the Leeds North East PCT, where I am employed as a service re-design Manager in the Commissioning team.

I qualified as a Physiotherapist,in Glasgow, in 1985 and worked for many years in a variety of Hospitals in Scotland and Oxford, before moving to Leeds 8 years ago. When I first moved to Leeds I worked as the Physiotherapist in the Young Adult Team at St Mary's Hospital, Leeds. In April 2004 I left clinical practice to work fulltime for the Leeds NorthEast PCT.

I have had a career long interest in the Rehabilitation of patients following stroke and I am delighted to be back working in this important area of Health and Social care.
